You'll have an opportunity to see Cathline Ericksons early collection of 1830's to 1890's Victorian and Edwardian Womens fashions, along with 20's FLAPPER, 30's, 40, 60, and 70's fashion!

Marvel at the designs created to give women the illusion of the "S" curve. No BBL's necessary, just add a bustle! We noticed "whalebone" was made into the bodice of the dress to again give the illusion of a smaller waist and hold everything together. Mainly to help sculpt the body. A sort of shapewear if you will. Its said by historians (Any knowledgeable collectors out there? Please chime in on the IG LIVE!) that:

1. The whalebone would mold to the body once snapped, hooked, ribboned and fashioned into place. Basically warmed up.
2. Whalebone was hunted during that period, almost to extinction. Sound familiar? Underwire. IYKYK.
3. The keratine in the whalebone resembles a fingernail.
4. Fun Fact! Men wore corsets too!

Of course thankfully styles change. But we'd be remiss not to acknowledge the workmanship that went into crafting these REMARKABLE 135 year old works of art. Some hand embroidered. Some early machine made, yet elaborate examples of floral lace.

The example shown offers a high neck, "leg of mutton" sleeves that end in a frill and a flounce. Gosh I LOVE ANTIQUE fashion! Shall I continue? Okay, quickly.

The SKIRT! Its "high Low" design with an emphasis on the "fall" on your derrière. (High low fashion came back a decade or so ago. Remember?)

We chose not to wash or iron these precious garments, and present as is. Its hook and eye on the back. Ivory satin and silk chiffon. I believe this one is a silk moire. (Mama, RIH, I remembered our textile talks.) Underneath is a pleated starched satin and a silk organza. Its what gives this garment its "swoosh."

There's also Edwardian menswear. SHIRTS in packaging! COLLARS! White tie! Makers mark and sizes inside ALL antique clothing.
