His father Eddie Greene Sr. was the PR and marketing representative for Joe Louis! Can you imagine what that must’ve been like? \n \nEstate Sale Goddess is honored to host the LIVING estate of Eddie Greene. Besides living in the lap of luxury in downtown Hyde Park\, this DOUBLE condo boast BRUTALIST décor\, crystal\, vintage furniture\, Mid Century Modern furniture\, BLACK ART\, wrought iron patio furniture\, Brutalist lighting by Tom Greene\, books\, jewelry\, watches\, records\, jazz cassettes vintage photographs! \n \nAnd dig this! When it came to barbecue\, Harvey Collins reputation for being the Barbecue king spread across the nation. According to Mr Greene\, one night at the mansion\, Hugh Hefner partook of a plate of ribs  and hot links and was immediately hooked. From that evening forward\, Hef insisted Harvey Collins become HEAD caterer and handle ALL the summer outdoor parties at the Playboy mansion! (And because Mr Collins Auntie worked as one of Hugh Hefners executive secretaries\, I’m sure whenever a visiting dignitary landed in Chicago\, Collins was called upon for ribs). \nHarvey Collins and his famous brothers were instrumental in the Civil Rights Movement! They gave money to Dr Martin Luther King Jr. to make sure he and his staff were able to pay for food and decent lodging. We all know the story of “Sundown Towns.” When Dr King arrived in Chicago and marched in Marquette Park\, they traveled through Effingham and many other racist cities. During segregation Black people were effectively barred from staying overnight. Often through intimidation and violence. Blacks were not allowed to dine or rent hotel rooms\, therefore they’d have to travel farther and incur more expenses. Do we ever think of the toll it took on their health? We should all be forever grateful for the help Collins brothers provided with this struggle. \nLastly\, the Collins brothers built SEAWAY BANK in Chicago!! \nEddie Greene Sr knew EVERYONE in Hollywood and everyone knew him! Look at this precious photograph of a young Sarah Vaughn. (Available for purchase at the upcoming estate sale). \n \nHere’s a quick story about when Eddie Greene met Ms. Lena Horne. Mr Greene\, a young man in his 20’s\, recounts the time he met Ms Lena while shopping in the exclusive Fox Hill Mall in California. Out of the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of the movie star and ran over to her and politely said hello Ms. Horne. He reports she took one look at him and in her sweetest southern drawl said\, “you’re Eddie Greene Jr! C’mon with me. Lets go get a margarita and let me tell you about yo Daddy.” We sat at the bar\, ordered our cocktails and began to reminisce about my Daddy. Ms Horne laughed deeply and continually shook her head as she repeated over and over\, “he was too much for me chile. I couldn’t handle him. All the ladies wanted him. You’re the spitting image of yo Daddy. SUGAR SHARP! Why I could cut my hand on the creases of his trousers! And I didn’t want no trouble from yo Mama Vera! I knew she would kick my ass!” \n \n \nThat’s Vera Arrington Greene Collins in the Club DeLisa (seated next to her brother) smack dab in the center.
