SUMMARY:"MAZIE" RHYTHM IS A DANCER!
DESCRIPTION:Estate of the Honorable Sydney P Brown\, Bronzesville Joyce & Scott W. Tyler & Artist Dread Scott Fam!\n	\n	\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	BRONZEVILLE ROYALITY! \n843 E DREXEL SQUARE\, CHICAGO 60653 \nThe Honorable Sydney P Brown-VP of Chicago Board of Education. Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity (he wrote the poem "House of Alpha") a poem that captures the spirit and values of the brotherhood. Howard university grad. Senior member of the law firm Brown\, Brown\, Cyrus & Green. Helped found the Illinois Service Federal Savings & Loan (now the GN Bank on 47th & King Dr).  \n\n	\n\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n\n \n \n \n \n	\n \n	\n\n Play Video\n \n \n \n\n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	Joyce Brown Tyler-Daughter of Sydney and Vivian Brown. Mrs. Joyce Tyler was a HOWARD graduate! Mrs Joyce was the epitome of style! She shopped from the Merchandise Mart and decorated her amazing 3500 square ft home with the one of the top ten MCM kings\, Milo Baughman. Judging from all the Georg Jensen and Rosenthal\, this was once an elegant entertainers home. The home located on the cusp of Bronzeville/North Kenwood/Hyde Park overlooks a city of Chicago boulevard. Later she began working in the travel industry\, with a fondness for the Cunard Line\, regular travel to Switzerland to visit family and of course Paris France. Her neighbors include family member musician/poet/playwright Oscar Brown Jr and neighbor John H Johnson of Ebony magazine fame. \n\n	\n\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	\n \n \n	\n	\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	Scott Tyler Sr-Chicago Real Estate Tycoon & photographer of the Chicago Daily Defender\, Scott Tyler leaves a strong legacy. Born in the north and a graduate of Northwestern University\, young and eager to make a mark on the world\, in 1947 Mr Tyler rode "shotgun" with his bestie and renowned newspaper man Vernon Jarrett. Their assignment was the racial warzone known as the "Airport Homes" over on 63rd and Keeler. Many can attest to the fact that the Southside was racially dangerous back in the day. While many Southsiders shopped on 63rd street and Halsted\, we all knew NEVER go west of Halsted if you valued your life. To travel past Ashland and try to sit and dine at the The Red Apple restaurant was like being in the middle of a KKK rally. Vernon Jarrett recounts the story of them riding to the scene in a Jitney cab (remember those?)\, and returning to the Chicago Daily Defender office in a police patrol wagon. They developed a gameplan in the Jitney as they pulled up to an angry mob "frantically rushing from their homes. Some were brandishing large sticks and pieces of iron\, others grabbed rocks from the street." \n\n	\n\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	\n \n \n	\n	\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	They were trying to keep two families of Black war Veterans from moving into the the complex. Once they arrived they were nearly killed. Mr Jarrett recounts how angry and frightened they both were.  Thank goodness Mr Tyler was able to talk him down. By speaking rationally at that moment he was able to calm both himself and Vernon Jarrett down. The DNA of slavery coursing through their veins made them stronger. Tyler told Jarrett that racism or anything else wasn't going to destroy his mind. In other words\, no incident\, man nor beast is going to "take him out of himself." \nIt was determined that Scott would have become a Pulitzer Prize winning photojournalist but tired of living his life in the rotting stench of racism. Fast forward\, he built an incredible Real Estate empire where he owned SCOTT W TYLER REAL ESTATE APPRAISALS. ~Excerpts by Vernon Jarrett \nPS. Scott Tyler became a Chef in his later years and has the kitchen and all the encoutrement to prove it! \n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	Visual and revolutionary Artist Dread Scott-Chicago born and raised\, Dread Scott is famous for many works but the one that stands out here in Chicago is the the 1989 work of the American flag. GW Bush and the entire senate denounced his work. Dread became part of a landmark case! "WHAT IS THE PROPER WAY TO DISPLAY A US FLAG?" His works are available in this sale. \nHere's a piece written by Alison Cuddy that mentions artist Dread Scott. One of the treasures in the cases is a passport\, from the artist Dread Scott’s “All African People’s Consulate\,” a Pan-African\, Afrofuturist art project made as part of this year’s Venice Biennale.  \n\n	\n\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	\n \n \n	\n	\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	\n \n \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	\n \n \n	\n	\n\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	\n \n \n	\n	\n\n\n\n	\n\n\n \n	\n	\n \n	Please be patient as we continue to build the catalog.
